MARIJAN GUBINA
DO GOOD SO THAT IT MAY RETURN TO YOU AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
Despite traumas and illnesses, he continues his education and stands out as one of the better students, but the ordeal of Marijan Gubina does not end there: the tragic death of his father, a Croatian soldier who had been previously wounded, the death of his younger sister, and ultimately, due to a series of unfortunate circumstances, he becomes homeless. Marijan does not lose faith in a better tomorrow. He educates himself and works at the same time. He successfully completes high school and establishes a trading company. Along with entrepreneurship, he becomes increasingly sensitive to social and societal issues. As a witness to social problems and modern plagues of various forms of addiction, including drug addiction, Marijan engages in his own education and works on preventing the misuse of narcotics. His humanitarian work and projects, for which he is the author and leader (in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team), are recognized by the local government and state institutions. Through his actions as a volunteer and as the long-term president of the Osijek League for the Fight Against Addiction, he has achieved excellent results and, after seven years of education in theory and practice, turns to basic social problems with the aim of solving social issues and developing a culture of peace. In the following decades, Marijan confirms his humanity daily with numerous examples, implementing many programs, projects, and actions throughout Croatia and abroad aimed at reducing the number of needy and developing a culture of peace as a counterbalance to the ubiquitous crisis of faith and morals and a bullying lifestyle. By his example, Marijan influences the development and strengthening of the international peace network. What makes Marijan special and why individuals and institutions recognize him as a humanitarian and peacemaker is his wide-ranging activity in the field of humanity and pacifism, and his work has been awarded numerous certificates and recognitions by civil societies, state, and international institutions. The crowning recognition is the decoration from the Republic of Croatia, the Order of the Croatian Trefoil, in 2017. The reading public, including professional critics, recognized Marijan particularly for his work “260 DAYS,” which achieved excellent results as an autobiographical novel, a theatre performance produced by the Croatian National Theatre in Osijek, a radio drama of the same name by Croatian Radio, and a series of other works that inspire the creation of a high-production feature film. Marijan Gubina treats the novel “260 DAYS” as a self-help book and often uses it as a type of manual in his numerous lectures aimed at motivating people of different ages and worldviews. Marijan currently enjoys the role of husband and father of four children.
